Hometown Throwdown August 2022

Last Updated 9/1/2022

As a way for the Toombs County School System to show their appreciation to the downtown businesses that they rely on for support, they decided to bring the crowd downtown. Mrs. Tabatha Nobles, TCS Assistant Superintendant, sought a partnership with Lyons Main Street to bring her vision to fruition. After a lot of planning, and coordinating with the downtown businesses and police, Downtown Lyons hosted its first pep rally, the 'Hometown Throwdown'.

Athletes, clubs, teachers, students, and fans of Toombs County Schools packed the streets in support of a new season. The Red Coat Drumline kept everyone in time while the TCHS Football & Basketball Cheerleaders and TCMS Basketball Cheerleaders kept spirits high. The Wrestling Team brought out the mats and the brave and willing had a chance to show off or get pinned down. The Boys and Girls Basketball Teams brought out a hoop and had fun playing in the street. The Softball and Baseball Team, Volleyball Team, and Track Team were available for autographs and the Bulldog Mascot was taking pictures with the fans. TCHS FFA had swag for sale, and TCMS FFA gave away balloons, bracelets, and popcorn. The Young Farmers handed out sweet tea and lemonade. The Esports and Morning Show Crew brought the mascots and had a meet and greet. TCHS FBLA had an info booth and the TCHS BETA Club gave away spirit jugs, while FCA gave out cotton candy. The Toombs BOE represented and handed out yard signs, magnets, and stickers. Lyons Primary School handed out goodie bags and Toombs County Elementary School gave away spirit beads. Lyons Upper Elementary School was present and full of cheer.

Local organizations, businesses, and clubs got in on the fun as well. The Lyons Lions Club brought their mascot, gave away pens, and had information on the upcoming Citizen of the Year Banquet. Oaks Baptist Church represented, and Lyons First Baptist Church handed out tickets for a free scoop of ice cream at Scoops. The Dental Center of Vidalia handed out boiled peanuts and fans and the Smile Doctors handed out freebies as well. Y101 was downtown sharing the support and love across the airways.

Last but not least, the TCHS Football Team strutted their stuff doing the 'Dog Walk' downtown. Over 400 people were downtown in celebration of connecting with others and supporting the community. When the festivities were over, everyone headed to 'The Pit' where the Toombs County Bulldogs whooped Wheeler County 21 - 0.
