City of Lyons Recognizes Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Racers

The City of Lyons and the Lyons City Council proudly presented an official proclamation recognizing the Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby during the August City Council meeting.

Seven local racers traveled to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the 88th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships, held July 11–18, 2026. Two Region 7 racers earned outstanding finishes in the World Championship competition:

• Henry Warren placed eighth overall in the Rally Stock World Championship.
• Alexa Garren placed third overall in the Rally Masters World Championship.

Weston Claxton, Isaac Pickels, Sophia “So-So” August, Charles Conner, and Jackson Bryant also proudly competed, with several placing among the top nine in races held throughout the week.

Luke Paris, the 2026 Super Kids Local Champion, also traveled to Akron and participated in events hosted through the International Soap Box Derby’s national Super Kids program.

The City of Lyons extends its sincere appreciation to Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby Director David Pickels, the Derby committee, racers and their families, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors for their dedication to this exceptional program. We also recognize the International Soap Box Derby and Lyons Main Street for their combined efforts and continued support throughout the year.
